最新病歷記錄指引：Due to 的用法

Due to 可直接用於名詞之後修飾該名詞之原因，或用於be動詞之後表達：

由於...、因...、應回歸...、起因於...、...所致的。

但due to 不可當作adverbial phrase (副詞系片語)之介系詞，而使用於be動詞以外的動詞之後，或置於句首來表示：

由於...、因...。(錯誤用法)

錯誤用法

1. Due to massive brain edema, the patient became coma.

2. Due to excessive vomiting, antiemetic drugs were given.

3. The operation was postponed due to high fever.

4. The child was brought to the hospital by his mother due to persistent high fever.

5. He arrived at the hospital late last night due to the heavy traffic.

修改後的文句

1. The patient's comatose state was due to massive brain edema. (加上 be動詞)
1. The patient became comatose because of massive brain edema. (直接替換成 because of)

2. Excessive vomiting was treated with antiemetic drugs. (改成被動式)
2. Because of (owing to) excessive vomiting, antiemetic drugs were given. (Because of 可放句首)

3. The operation was postponed because the patient had a high fever.

4. The child was brought to the hospital by his mother because of persistent high fever. (直接改 because)

5. His late arrival at the hospital last night was due to (caused by) the heavy traffic. (加上 be動詞)

後記

話雖如此，但仍然有很多英國個案報告文獻內文有類似的用法：

A 51-year-old male was admitted due to a 3-day history of epigastralgia.

A 66-year-old man with diabetes mellitus ...was admitted due to a high fever.

A patient with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus was admitted due to a sudden vision loss at  right.

Due to her function as a refractive manager she was well aware of...

Due to the bleeding and ulceration, a colonostomy was performed and local radiotherapy began.
